IRD
IRD (I2C Register Description) stands for a technology which introduces an entirely new level of device access.
Instead of working with addresses, offsets and byte values the user is provided with a comprehensive view of device registers which are given by the names used in the data sheets.
Mapping between such names and the physical locations within a device are done automatically by I2C Studio.
The mapping is device-dependent. It gets described by IRD files.
Since its introduction with I2C Studio 2.0 IRD has been used with great success in a lot of development projects world-wide.
IRD Composer
I2C Studio 4.0.0 comes with more than 100 ready-to-use IRD files. These files cover the most important I2C and SMBus devices on the market.
Sometimes during development projects IRD files for not supported devices are needed. In the previous versions of I2C Studio the customers had the possibility to write IRD files, which are based on XML, using a simple text editor. While this is a good solution for engineers with a lot of experience, it is not always the best solution for beginners.
Starting with I2C Studio 4.0.0 it is also possible to create IRD files using a dialog of I2C Studio.
Find
Very often during the development of new products errors occur only sporadically. Therefore it is necessary to capture the traffic on the I2C bus for hours or even for days. After the error has occurred, the engineer has to find the I2C commands which caused the problems.
I2C Studio 4.0.0 makes it possible to specify very complex search criterions. It is possible to search for I2C addresses, transfer directions, data bytes, timings, errors etc. The single search criterions can be combined using logic operations like "AND" or "OR".

IRD Development
It is understood that telos offers custom development of IRD definition files. This comes in handy if you have a standard IC or ASIC which is not currently supported but which you would like to operate using IRD.
Development costs differ depending on the complexity of the chip. Here are some examples:
ADM1021A: 300 EUR
LM99: 300 EUR
ADM1029: 1200 EUR
PCA9505/9506: 300 EUR
Nevertheless, you can of course implement the IRD definitions files on your own.
